xAI stock.
xAI builds the Grok family of large language models and owns the X platform. It is no longer an independent company: SpaceX acquired xAI in early 2026, folding Grok and X into SpaceX's AI division. That means there is no separate xAI stock, ticker, or IPO. The only way to invest in xAI on the public market is to buy SpaceX (SPCX), which now houses it.

From start-up to part of SpaceX.
Elon Musk founded xAI in March 2023 to build a frontier model to rival OpenAI's, and released the first version of Grok that November. In March 2025 xAI took over X, the former Twitter, in an all-stock deal that valued xAI at $80 billion and X at $33 billion, on the logic that a model and a real-time social platform were worth more together.
On February 2, 2026 SpaceX completed its acquisition of xAI, again paid in shares, making it a wholly owned subsidiary. SpaceX listed on Nasdaq four months later, and in August 2026 it added Anysphere, the company behind the Cursor coding assistant, to the same AI segment.
What the AI business looks like now.
SpaceX reports Grok, X and its AI computing infrastructure as a separate AI segment. It earns revenue from AI products and from advertising on X, and it runs at an operating loss while absorbing more capital spending than SpaceX's rocket and Starlink businesses combined. Grok is trained on Colossus, xAI's cluster in Memphis, Tennessee. SpaceX also rents computing capacity to other labs: Anthropic agreed in May 2026 to take all of the Colossus 1 cluster.
How to buy xAI stock.
xAI is not listed on any exchange and has no ticker of its own. Since SpaceX acquired xAI in 2026, Grok and the X platform are now part of SpaceX. The only way to get xAI exposure on the public market is to buy SpaceX stock.

Buy SpaceX (SPCX) stock
SpaceX trades publicly and now owns xAI. Our guide covers brokers, key facts, and how to place your first order.
One caveat: buying SpaceX also gives you exposure to its launch and Starlink businesses, so it is not a pure-play xAI or Grok investment. There is no way to buy xAI on its own today.
